Storm & Drainage in the South Bay

Standing water, a leaking roof drain, or a patio that has nowhere to go — request an estimate with photos of the wet area.

Storm and drainage plumbing moves rain and wash-down water off roofs, decks, and paving so it does not sit against stucco, crawlspaces, or a neighbor’s slab. That is a different system from the sanitary sewer, even when both are underground. Mixing them is a code problem; ignoring a clogged roof drain is a ceiling-stain problem.

Peninsula and beach-city buildings add overflow drains, scuppers, and tight side yards. Mid-century Torrance pads may have area drains that silted in or catch basins that no longer meet the driveway. Multi-unit buildings need roof-drain bodies and leaders that can be maintained — not a mystery pipe in a chase.

This category covers roof drain install/replace, overflows, deck and area drains, storm piping, underground drainage, catch basins, repairs, and site drainage plumbing. Landscape grading without piping may still need another trade; tell us what you already have in the ground.

Who this is for

  • Buildings with ponding on a roof, deck, or driveway
  • Owners replacing failed roof-drain bodies or leaders
  • Projects adding area drains or catch basins
  • Anyone repairing broken underground storm piping

Common symptoms

  • Water at a sliding door, planters that never dry, or a garage that sheets water inside
  • A roof drain that overflows into a ceiling or wall
  • A catch basin that stays full days after rain
  • A deck drain that rattles, leaks below, or was never tied to a leader

What this work involves

  • Separating storm water from sanitary sewer unless a legal combined condition already exists
  • Installing or replacing drain bodies, piping, and overflow paths
  • Setting basins and underground runs with cleanable access where the design needs it
  • Repairing failed sections without guessing at the discharge point

FAQ

Is a roof drain a plumbing job or a roofing job?
The drain body, overflow, and piping are plumbing. Roofing membranes and flashing around the drain often involve the roofer. We coordinate rather than claim roofing work.
Can you tie storm drains into the sewer?
Not as a convenience. Storm and sanitary are separate systems. If an inspector or existing condition says otherwise, we address that on the estimate — we do not improvise a cross-connection.
Do you hydro jet storm lines too?
Storm piping can be cleaned when access exists. Roots, silt, and collapsed pipe still may need repair. See sewer & drain for sanitary cleaning methods.
